*CFP* "THE DARK SIDE OF ORGANIZATIONAL SOCIALIZATION", 3RD INTERNATIONAL AND INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE ON DISCOURSE AND COMMUNICATION PROFESSIONAL CONTEXTS

The Dark Side of Organizational Socialization

3rd International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Discourse and Communicationin Professional Contexts

11 - 12 November 2021.

Aalborg University, Denmark

A main characteristic of late modern societies is the decline of the grand narratives of family, church, government, and nation. The decline of these narratives, as well as the authority of the institutions constituted in and by them, has left an open space, a void if you will. A void that seems to exert an almost gravitational pull on other narratives and other institutions, all of which are eager to occupy the space left open.

*CFP* "MEDIA-ENTERPRISE. DISCOURSES AND PRACTICES OF CINEMA AND THE MEDIA IN CORPORATE CULTURE", ISSUE 1, THE CINEMA E STORIA JOURNAL

The reconstruction of the Italian social fabric in the aftermath of WWII did not involve only the re-establishment of a democratic political framework after a twenty year-long Fascist dictatorship; it also implied a painstaking restoration of national industry, which had been seriously affected by the global conflict. As part of this process, increasingly wide portions of Italian territory were converted from agricultural to industrial use, new ways to improve the efficiency of mass production were introduced, and the ‘Marshall Plan’ helped with its substantial funding programme. The latter also updated generally the modes of communication at work within public companies and private enterprises, renewing the ways that both workers and consumers were informed, persuaded, and recruited.

This special issue, Media-Enterprise Discourses and Practices of Cinema and the Media in Corporate Culture, will focus on the complex set of relations between corporate culture and media discourses and practices. In taking the well-acknowledged governmental instrumentalisation of the medium of film and the increasing attention devoted to “sponsored” and “industrial” cinema as points of departure, we aim to expand these reflections to different media domains. As well as assessing industrial enterprises and corporations as subjects or commissioners of audiovisual representations, we intend to account for the role played by media-technologies within business, from the end of WWII to the present day.

*CFP* "SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY STUDIES AND HEALTH PRAXIS: GENETIC SCIENCE AND NEW DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES", EDITED BOOK

Tina Sikka is pleased to extend an invitation for an expression of interest for an edited collection I am working on with Bristol University Press titled, "Science and Technology Studies and Health Praxis: Genetic Science and New Digital Technologies." The details are listed below. Do let me know if you are interested and able to contribute, or if you have any questions (tina.sikka@newcastle.ac.uk). A formal call for abstracts will follow shortly. I am really excited about the collection and would love to have a contribution that reflects some of the interesting work being done by scholars on the list.

This edited collection invites chapters from a variety of fields aimed at the interdisciplinary study of the latest health (digital and genetic) technologies using a variety of forward-looking STS methods (the socio-technical, radical democratisation, feminist technoscience, new materialism, laboratory studies, radical/auto ethnography, case studies etc.). What makes these health technologies unique, and therefore demands study, is that they constitute an embodied and mediated health ecosystem based on neoliberal logics that promise bio-molecular transformations of who we are in particular ways. The book will be primarily aimed at scholarly and student readers in critical STS, race, gender, socio-economic status, sexuality and health studies. Each chapter will apply some form of STS based method, approach, or theoretical frame (e.g. case studies, ANT, controversies, feminist technoscience/STS, Indigenous and Postcolonial STS, co-production and co-constitution, socio-material analysis, ethnographies) within the following framework:

*CFP* "TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION", EDITED COLLECTION

Climate change is one of the most significant challenges facing the global community in the 21st century, and with its position at the border of people, technology, science, and communication, Technical Communication has a significant role to play in helping to solve these complex environmental problems. Curiously, however, Technical Communication (TC) research has remained relatively quiet on the contributions of our field to environmental action. This collection of essays seeks to redress this dearth of published research on environmental concerns in TC by engaging scholars and practitioners in a deep conversation about the ways that our field has contributed to pragmatic and democratic action to address climate change.

This collection seeks to explore the actual practice of international technical communicators participating in government projects, corporate processes, nonprofit programs, and international agency work that shapes global environmental action.

*CFP* “STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION & CIVIC DYNAMICS”, SPECIAL ISSUE, THE PUBLIC SCIENCES AND POLICIES JOURNAL

In the perspective of many sociologists, including Bauman (2000), contemporary society - also called postmodern - is seen as more dynamic and volatile, where human relations are less permanent and no longer guided by ethical standards of modernity. The contingency of today's society fosters the emergence of new organizational networks and social movements based on increasing citizen participation.

In this context, dominant and marginalized groups use strategic communication in order to gain voice and legitimacy in public spheres. Sustaining civic engagement, strategic communication can be used by activist movements to gain power balance and challenge dominant groups.
