*CFP* "CREATIVE SPACES, AFFECTIVE RESPONSES AND VISUAL METHODS: NEW APPROACHES TO FILM FAN TOURISM", UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD

Creative Spaces, Affective Responses and Visual Methods: New Approaches to Film Fan Tourism
July 12th 2019

Film tourism is not a new phenomenon and in recent years it has grown with the rise of both fantasy based tourism (Game of Thrones (2011-19, USA), Lord of the Rings (2001-3, New Zealand/USA) and journeys of perceived self reflection and development (Eat, Pray Love (2010, USA)].

However, existing research has tended to focused on tourist behaviours and heritage conservation within specific national states. Questions related to transnational fandom and the socio-cultural implications of their tourism are highly under-explored and this workshop is about bridging the spaces between film studies, fan studies, tourism studies and other allied fields.

*CFP* “REFOCUS: THE FILMS OF RAKHSHAN BANIETEMAD”, BOOK CHAPTER

Rakhshan Benietemad is one of the first Iranian female directors with a career spanning over 40 years. Besides leaving a rich legacy through both her documentaries and fiction films, she has been an influential figure in Iranian film industry. This is evident especially in her Endorsement and collaboration in establishing ‘Karestan’, a documentary initiative to produce documentary films on Iranian entrepreneurs.

Rakhshan Banietemad along with other female pioneers such as Pouran Derakhshandeh and Tahmineh Milani not only have paved the way for women to enter the film industry in Iran, she has also helped transform the representation of women in Iranian films. Incorporating stories from her research and documentaries into her fiction films has created some of the best female-centric social realist films coming out of Iran. Although Rakhshan Banietemad and her films have been subject of much scholarly writing, there are many aspects of her films that have not been scrutinised in full, in a cohesive study such as the proposed one. The proposed anthology intends to put together a comprehensive and fresh study of her work. Chapters focusing on both single films and themes or her work as a whole are welcomed.

Radio has been tremendously significant for society and culture in the last century, and it is predicted that it will continue to play a major role albeit in a constantly changing context. Indeed, radio has survived and thrived in the last 100 years by continuously adapting to changing social, cultural and technological circumstances.

*CFP* “RECLAIMING THE SCREEN: ADDRESSING OVERLOOKED WOMEN IN FILM AND TELEVISION”, DE MONTFORT UNIVERSITY

Reclaiming the Screen: Addressing Overlooked Women in Film and Television
Postgraduate Conference
Friday 14th June 2019

‘[T]he tragedy of film history is that it’s fabricated, falsified, by the very people who make film history’ – Louise Brooks

De Montfort University’s Cinema and Television History Institute (CATHI) is pleased to invite Postgraduates and Early Career Researchers to its eighth annual postgraduate conference, focusing on overlooked women in the film, television and media industries. This conference seeks to offer a platform uncovering, challenging, and drawing attention to issues relating to overlooked self-identifying women across all areas of women’s film and television history, culture, and production. There is a continued lack of gender equality within the film industry, exemplified most recently by the absence of any female nominees within the 2019 Academy Awards’ Best Director category. This conference aims to offer a platform to the voices of underrepresented, unheard and undervalued women. This conference is also an opportunity to highlight examples of women’s autonomy and agency within the television and film industries, from any era and any part of the globe.
