*CFP* CALL FOR ARTICLES, THE QUIVIRR: QUALITATIVE VIDEO RESEARCH REPORTS NEW LAUNCHED JOURNAL

A new open access journal has been launched called QuiViRR: Qualitative Video Research Reports (pronounced 'quiver'). The journal will fill an increasingly noticeable gap in the publication landscape in the field of video methods for qualitative research.

The goal is for this journal to address that gap, as well as to support and promote open scholarship beyond the narrow green/gold open access debate. The journal is edited by academic scholars in the field who are passionate about the issues.

QuiViRR is a serious, hybrid academic journal that supports both blind peer review and non-peer reviewed content. Its broad thematic focus is qualitative research methods in the humanities and social sciences that are centrally and substantively video-based.

The main areas that the journal covers include:
  • Using audio-visual technology for research purposes;
  • Conducting and transforming video-based qualitative research;
  • Supporting video-based qualitative research methods with software and hardware solutions;
  • Documenting and investigating sociotechnical practices of research with video and audio;
  • Appropriating and developing new technologies to extend video-based qualitative research in new directions, e.g. immersive XR, spatial audio or drone video;
  • Critically documenting and reflecting on the practices and workflow of video methods, from data collection to dissemination of results;
  • Exploring interventions in social, political and cultural contexts in and through video-based qualitative research.
A variety of submission types are accepted, such as traditional research articles, experimental articles, shorter articles, micro articles, invited commentary, how-to guides, technology reviews, software reviews, video articles and research software articles. Special issues with guest editors are encouraged. In order to push the boundaries, open peer review will also be supported in addition to blind peer review, as well as post-publication commentary (using hypothes.is) and versioning of more experimental articles with perpetual releases (using GitHub). All content will be published with a minted DOI number (via Crossref) and a Creative Commons license. There are no article processing charges (APCs).
