*CFP* “INDIGENOUS REPRESENTATION, MEDITATION AND VOICES IN SOUTHEAST ASIAN MEDIA”, VOL.2, NO.2, SOUTHEAST ASIAN MEDIA STUDIES

This special issue of Southeast Asian Media Studies will provide a collection of research articles on the topic of Indigenous representation, mediation, and voices in Southeast Asian media. The issue will examine the representation of Indigenous Southeast Asian people and ethnic minority groups in television, radio, film, websites, social media, news media, and popular culture. At the same time, the issue will critically consider the use of diverse media forms by Indigenous communities for purposes of activism, empowerment, identity, political voice, gender equality, heritage protection, and environmental conservation.

  • Emerging media theories concerning Indigenous Southeast Asian cultures;
  • Critical reviews of Indigenous SEA media studies;
  • Indigenous mass media literacies and audiences;
  • Indigenous media technologies, practices, and processes;
  • Politics and Indigenous media; media policies, regulations, and forms of censorship;
  • Indigenous business, ownership, management, and control of mass media;
  • Indigenous gender issues and identity formation in/through media;
  • Indigenous ecomedia; media for environmental activism and conservation;
  • Indigenous heritage protection, cultural identity, and media;


Submission procedure
All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another journal or other forms of publication. Authors should follow the guidelines found here.

All manuscripts should be sent to editor. seams@gmail.com.

Please use the subject “SUBMISSION: Vol.1 No.2_Surname_Short Title” (e.g. SUBMISSION: Vol.1 No.2_Ching_A Review of Southeast Asian Media Theories). 

The deadline for manuscripts for this issue is on 15 January 2020.
