We invite authors to submit articles for the upcoming issue of Performance, Religion and Spirituality. We seek scholarly articles and reviews of performances and books, as well as contributions to our “Forum” section, which highlights practical work and profiles artists.
Topics should treat some aspect of religion and/or spirituality as, in, or through performance. PRS especially welcomes interdisciplinary papers that address a range of methodological perspectives, including but not limited to: religious studies, theatre and performance studies, cultural studies, media studies, sociology, political science, international relations, theology, applied performance or practice as research, and pedagogy.
In addition, for this issue, we are inviting contributions of field reports, short essays, video, or similar material concerning how contemporary religious life has adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic. Are you part of, or do you work with, a religious community that has had to find a way to continue its rituals and public life without public assembly? Have you seen the development of new liturgies, new performance styles, new uses of technology, or new modes of understanding a sense of religious community in these difficult times?
We are looking for a wide variety of reports on how the pandemic has affected the performance of religious life around the world. These reports may be scholarly or personal. They need not take the form of a traditional academic essay, and they may be contributed by scholars, religious professionals, artists, congregants, or anyone else who has a report to contribute. To encourage a wide variety of submissions, these reports will be edited, but not peer-reviewed. For more details, or with questions, please contact the editor.

PRS is an international, bi-annual, peer-reviewed and open-access journal devoted to expanding and deepening discussion about the performed and performative dimensions of religion and spirituality, as well as the religious and spiritual dimensions of performance. The journal promotes rigorous scholarship about the social, cultural, philosophical, and theoretical implications of religion and spirituality (which can include secularity and atheism) as aspects of theatre, the arts, everyday life, politics, language, history, and the sciences.
The journal is open to proposals for academic publications that take forms other than that of the traditional article. Scholars who wish to submit their work in a different form should simply explain the form their work will take in the email with which they submit their abstract.
