As the field of queer production studies continues to grow and develop, much of the European context remains relatively absent from research. This collection proposes to expand the locations and contexts in which queer production studies takes place, examining the ways in which queer sexual identity is operationalised within production structures and routines of media production. For this edited collection, we invite papers from a variety of geographic locations across Europe, examining queer production cultures in relation to their local, national and European contexts.
The collection is primarily interested in research addressing a wide range of mainstream and alternative queer production cultures, within traditional audio-visual industries of film and television, paratexts, digital and social media including but not limited to digital journalism, podcasting, interactive authoring and mobile applications.
It is anticipated that the book will make a valuable contribution to queer media studies, queer production studies but will also look at issues at stake within Europe’s media landscape. It is expected that it will facilitate scholars, students, activists, policy makers and practitioners in understanding issues around inclusion and diversity in terms of media work, representation and the impact of queerness on media production cultures.
We have received a strong expression of interest from an international publisher who is awaiting the submission of a full proposal.
