The 2020 World Media Economics and Management Conference (WMEMC) will
take place in Rome, Italy on May 20-24.
The conference theme is Polarization in Media Industries. The conference is organized by the Luiss
School of Business and Management.
The media industry is experiencing extreme disruption. The way content
is created and distributed has changed dramatically. Media companies are rethinking business
models, audience behaviors and company strategies. The changes are driven by
changing consumer demands driven by the globalization and digitalization of
media industries. Algorithms are influencing consumption and big data are
increasingly a key economic and strategic resource. The changes post significant challenges and
create opportunities, and court reasonable risk. Disruption explains the rapid growth of
small media companies flourishing in niche markets and consolidation of
diversified global conglomerates that enjoy economies of scale and scope that
facilitate enormous market power that are now difficult competitors for
national operators. The competitive environment is becoming polarized -- the
theme of WMEMC 2020.
Conference organizers invite scholarly original submissions that
investigate and develop insight about phenomena, trends and dynamics relevant
to the conference theme. The conference welcomes quantitative and qualitative
research, especially work that is interdisciplinary, both empirical and thought
leadership options that develop understandings of current dynamics and future
trends in media industries. Abstracts (300 - 500 words) should be submitted via
the conference website.
Submissions are accepted as PDF uploads and should not contain diagrams,
tables or images, although these may be added when submitting the full paper.
Abstracts will be accepted from July 1st through September 8th. Selection is
done by an international Scientific Committee based on the relevance of the
topic to the theme and the scholarly value to the field.
Early Bird registration will begin August 26.
