*CFP* "READING INTO MURDER: INTERPRETIVE ESSAYS ON SELECT CULT TEXTS", EDITED BOOK

The book will be a collection of critical papers on  select cult texts.

The aim shall be to present a broad view and an in-depth scholarship on the highest level of crime, murder, and its interpretation, detection and/or denouement in the select cult/classic works of literature, drama, fiction, poetry, ranging works from Greek tragedy, Elizabethan revenge tragedy and Jacobian tragedy, Browning's poetry, classic British detective fiction, modernist English verse drama, Bengali detective fiction, European and American fiction (Umberto Eco from Italy; Arnaldur Indriðason from Iceland, Jed Rubenfeld from USA and Latin American fiction by Gabriel Garcia Marquez from Colombia and Orhan Pamuk from Istanbul) through most pertinent/relevant theoretical lenses.

The literary texts selected for study are the following:

  • Agatha Christie The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1926)
  • T S Eliot Murder in the Cathedral (1935) 
  • Saradindu Bandyopadhyay Sajarur Kaanta (Porcupine Quills) (1967) 
  • Satyajit Ray Dr Munshir Diary [The Diary of Dr Munshi] (1990) and Hatyapuri [House of Murder] (1979)
  • Umberto Eco The Name of the Rose (1980)
  • Gabriel Garcia Marquez Chronicle of a Death Foretold (1981) 
  • Orhan Pamuk My Name is Red (1998)

Thus, the book will adopt an eclectic approach selecting texts from ancient Greek tragedy to most recent bestsellers of the 2000s to understand the theme of murder as crime in literatures through the ages and cultures.


Submission guidelines
  • Abstracts in 250 words in Times New Roman 12 font and 5 keywords to be sent along with a brief bio note as a single attachment to be sent.
  • Abstract should mention author's name, designation/affiliation, name of institution and email below the keywords.
  • Full papers should be in MLA 7th edition, Times New Roman 12 font, 1.5 line spacing, justified, and with endnotes only (no footnotes). Any copyright issues need to be cleared by the contributor with NOC from the original owner and  submitted along with the full paper. A declaration of originality has to be submitted. 

Word limit is 8000 words maximum, inclusive of references.


Dates
Submission of Abstract: 21 September, 2020
Intimation of Acceptance: By  15  December, 2020
Submission of Full paper: To be intimidated to the selected contributors.

The edited volume will be published  from national/international level publisher with ISBN.
