The International Congress of Fantastic Genre, Audiovisuals and New Technologies is an activity of scientific and academic
divulgation that is part of Elche International Fantastic Film Festival – FANTAELX, and which has the collaboration of the Miguel Hernández University.
Its mission is to transmit research studies in all the
different thematic lines of the Fantastic Genre, covering all its possible
variants and platforms: cinema, television, theater, literature, comics,
videogames, virtual reality, plastic arts, etc. Ways of participation:
Option 1:
The summaries of the Communications will be sent
following the main thematic line of the new edition of the Congress and the
Festival: Crime and the fantastic, through these four possible
variations:
- Research and theoretical reflection on crime as fiction of the fantastic in its various forms of expression: studies, trends, movements, works and prominent authors.
- Crime and its interconnection with the different models of audiovisual culture and new technologies: its connection with cinema, comics, video games, virtual reality, theater, plastic arts, etc.
- Research and theoretical reflection of crime through its various themes and subgenres in the fantastic, referring to concepts such as serial killers, psycho killers, final girls, scream queens, etc., in the different cultural and technological models, and from the perspective of study of currents (works, prominent authors, etc.) and sub-genres, such as slasher, speculative fiction, utopia, dystopia, uchronia, survival horror, giallo, etc.
- Criminology as a tool for communication, reflection or social and political analysis from audiovisual fiction and the fantastic.
Once the Communication has been accepted, the
Communicators must pay a registration fee of 67$ (60€) each author, following
the instructions that will be sent to them via email. The fee includes:
- Presentation of the Communication in the Congress
- Certificate of Communication and Assistance.
- Academic publication with book chapter in Spanish and paper with ISBN.
- Delivery of the paper book.
The presentation of the Communication in the Congress
won’t be mandatory. In case of not attending the event as a speaker, the
Communication will also appear in the edition of the paper book with ISBN.
The publication of the chapter in the paper book with
ISBN must be done in Spanish, and using the Word template available in the
writing rules.
Option 2:
The abstracts of the Communications will follow the
generic thematic line of the Congress: The Fantastic Gender and its possible interconnection
with the different platforms of the culture, the audiovisual and the new
technologies, through these four possible variations:
- The investigation and the theoretical reflection on the Fantastic Gender in its diverse modalities of expression: studies, currents, movements, works and outstanding authors.
- The Fantastic Genre and its interconnection with the different models of audiovisual culture and new technologies: the hybrid character of the fantastic with cinema, comics, videogames, virtual reality, plastic arts, etc.
- Possible communication and/or teaching methodologies and tools through platforms related to the Fantastic Gender.
- The fantastic in the political context: approaches and studies where the fantastic establishes a discourse connected with social debate, collectivity and political action.
Once the Communication has been accepted, the
Communicators must pay a registration fee of 67$ (60€) each author, following
the instructions that will be sent to them via email. The fee includes:
- Presentation of the Communication in the Congress.
- Certificate of Communication and Assistance.
- Academic publication with an English-language digital book chapter with ISBN (it will be a different ISBN from the paper book of Option 1, since this second compilation of texts in English will compose the material for a different book).
The presentation of the Communication in the Congress
won’t be mandatory. In case of not attending the event as a speaker, the
Communication will also appear in the edition of the digital book with ISBN,
that will be able to be downloaded free of charge from the Publications section
of our website.
The publication of the chapter in the digital book
with ISBN must be done necessarily in English-language, and using the Word
template available in the writing rules. It is recommended and preferable not
to use automatic translation software into English, as it detracts from the
content and form of the text. In case of detecting this type of translation,
the Editorial Committee will return the text for correction to the authors,
before blind peer review.
Authors who wish to participate simultaneously in the
two modalities (Option 1 and Option 2), to include their Communication or their
Communications in the edition of both books (paper publication in Spanish and
digital publication in English), may do so: Sending independently an email with the proposal for
Communication for Option 1, and another email with the proposal for
Communication for Option 2.
Likewise, each author must pay the two registration
fees of 67$ (60€) of each modality, following the instructions that will be sent
to them by email.
General considerations:
The deadline for submission of abstracts of the
Communications in both options ends on October 11, 2020 (included).
The Communications and their summaries may be sent in
Spanish, Valencian, English or French. However, the writing of the chapter for

the adaptation to the present bases.

peer review, will propose the selection of Communications approved for the Congress,

evaluation and publication in book chapters format, both for the publication of
the paper book (Option 1) and for the publication of the digital book (Option

won’t be valued for the scientific program.
