- Actively encourage and aide those young people whose voice is rarely heard by policymakers and academia to be published.
The Special Issue
Today, young people all over the world face unique
challenges in a constantly evolving global environment. In this upcoming issue,
the Youth Voice Journal will provide special attention to Scanning the Future.
We have added Climate, Populism, Artificial Intelligence and Jobs to the title
as illustrative but by no means exclusive issues that may merit the attention
of contributors. Life is tough for so many young people. The challenges range
across a host of issues.
The 2015 Declaration of the 2nd European Youth Work
Convention talked of the essence of ‘youth work’ is about both ‘spaces’ and
‘bridges’ for young people. This idea could now extend to the entire youth
policy context: how do we both support young people in moving forward
positively and purposefully in their lives while simultaneously ensuring space
for their autonomy, decision-making and voice? Such a question, or questions,
apply across contexts as diverse as the climate emergency and the labour
market, and across issues as diverse as migration and populism. What have young
people got to say? Where will Artificial Intelligence make a difference? What
should be the role of social media? How can individualism and justice be better
balanced? What about generational inequities and connections? Ultimately, what
kind of balance should be struck across these fields between structure and
autonomy, between ‘enabling’ young people through mitigating risk and
cultivating an environment of hope and possibility while ‘ensuring’ that the
capabilities of youth can shine through and produce perspectives and
initiatives of their own.
As a result, we encourage innovative research and submissions
grounded in youth and youth-led research and centred on the views and
experiences of young people.
