*CFP* "DIGITAL AND INTERACTIVE", SPECIAL ISSUE, HARTS & MINDS

This call for papers invites submissions from postgraduates or early career researchers on topics relating to the interactive and aspects of interactivity, for the next edition of HARTS & Minds, set for online publication in 2019/20.

We invite submissions from those working across the arts and humanities, and those working beyond those areas in dialogue with other scholarly fields, interested in answering what interactive means to them, what aspects of interactivity can be found within their discipline, and how barriers to interactivity can be addressed within their own research.

Suggestions for proposals could include but are not limited to:

• Interactive environments and their application 
• The relationship between creator and consumer 
• Interactive hardware (Game Controllers, VR headsets, phones, etc.) 
• Mediums such as: interactive film, analogue/digital games, CYOA. 
• Examinations of open-ended play and its relationship to context building 
• Audience/participation experience 
• Interactivity and reception studies 
• The dynamics of interaction 
• Identity performance/formulation through interactivity 
• Language used to talk about interactivity 
• Strategies to encourage interaction 
• Curated spaces (Interactivity between multiple creators and consumers)

We accept submissions of:

1. ARTICLES: Abstract of 300 words. Accepted abstracts will need to produce articles of no longer than 6,000 words. 
2. BOOK REVIEWS: Approx. 1,000 words covering any academic text relevant to the theme. Interdisciplinary text preferred, but reviews of subject-specific texts will be considered. 
3. EXHIBITION REVIEWS: Approx. 1,000 words on any event along the lines of an art exhibition, museum collection, academic event or conference review that deals with the theme in some respect.  
4. CREATIVE WRITING PIECES: e.g. original poetry (up to 3 short or 1 long) short stories or creative essays of up to 4,000 words related to the theme.

All submissions should be sent to special editors Charlotte Gislam and Richard Kearns at editors@harts-minds.co.uk by the following dates:

• 300-word abstracts (for 6,000 word articles): 2 September 2019 
• Accepted articles: 4 November 2019 
• Creative writing and reviews: 29 November 2019

Please keep in mind that HARTS & Minds is intended as a truly inter-disciplinary journal, and esoteric topics will therefore need to be written with a general academic readership in mind.
