On Saturday 21st September 2019 the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic will
be supporting a one-day conference, in conjunction with the University of
Wolverhampton, on the subject of Witchcraft: Accusations and Persecutions to
complement the 2019 exhibition. It will be held in the Wellington Hotel,
Boscastle, Cornwall UK.
If you would like to present a paper please send an abstract of no more
than 200 words together with a brief biographical note to: louise.fenton@wlv.ac.uk
The subject is vast so papers can be as broad or as specific as you
wish. Themes to address include, but are not restricted to, the following:
- Historic witchcraft trials in the UK, Europe or USA
- The Malleus Malificarum and other key texts
- Persecutions in the name of religion
- Subjects of the accusations (familiars, cursing, shape-shifting, etc...)
- Children and accusations
- Witch persecutions in a global context
- Images of witchcraft trials and persecutions
- Modern witch trials and human rights
Deadline for abstracts is August 15th 2019
