14-15 de Noviembre de 2019
Elche, España
The International Congress of Fantastic Genre, Audiovisuals and New Technologies is an activity of scientific and academic divulgation that is part of Elche International Fantastic Film Festival – FANTAELX, and which has the collaboration of the Miguel Hernández University (Spain).
Its mission is to transmit research studies in all the different thematic lines of the Fantastic Genre, covering all its possible variants and platforms: cinema, television, theater, literature, comics, videogames, virtual reality, etc.
Option 1
The summaries of the Communications will be sent following the main thematic line of the new edition of the Congress and the Festival: Science-Fiction in the cosmological context and its possible interconnection with the various platforms of culture, audiovisual and new technologies, through these four possible variations:
- Research and theoretical reflection of Science-Fiction, as a fantastic subgenre, in the cosmological context and in its various forms of expression: studies, currents, movements, works and outstanding authors.
- Science-Fiction in the cosmological context and its interconnection with the various models of audiovisual culture and new technologies: its hybrid character through cinema, comics, video games, virtual reality, etc.
- Research and theoretical reflexion of Science-Fiction in the cosmological context through its various themes and subgenres, referring to concepts such as the cosmos, parallel universes, exoplanets, paradoxes and space utopias, cosmic horror, space roboethics, etc., in the various cultural and technological models, and from the perspective of studying currents (works, leading authors, etc.) and subgenres, such as Steampunk, Speculative fiction, New Weird, Solarpunk, etc.
- Science-Fiction in the cosmological context as a tool for communication, reflection or social and political analysis.
Once the Communication has been accepted, the Communicators must pay a registration fee of 67$ (60€) following the instructions that will be sent to them via email. The fee includes:
1) Presentation of the Communication in the Congress.
2) Certificate of Communication and Assistance.
3) Academic publication with book chapter in Spanish and paper with ISBN.
The presentation of the Communication in the Congress won't be mandatory. In case of not attending the event as a speaker, the Communication will also appear in the edition of the paper book with ISBN.
The publication of the chapter in the paper book with ISBN must be done in Spanish, and using the Word template that will appear soon in this section.
Option 2
The abstracts of the Communications will follow the generic thematic line of the Congress: The Fantastic Gender and its possible interconnection with the different platforms of the culture, the audiovisual and the new technologies, through these four possible variations:
- The investigation and the theoretical reflexion on the Fantastic Gender in its diverse modalities of expression: studies, currents, movements, works and outstanding authors.
- The Fantastic Genre and its interconnection with the different models of audiovisual culture and new technologies: the hybrid character of the fantastic with cinema, comics, videogames, virtual reality, etc.
- Possible communication and/or teaching methodologies and tools through platforms related to the Fantastic Gender.
- The fantastic in the political context: approaches and studies where the fantastic establishes a discourse connected with social debate, collectivity and political action.
Once the Communication has been accepted, the Communicators must pay a registration fee of 67$ (60€) following the instructions that will be sent to them via email. The fee includes:
1) Presentation of the Communication in the Congress.
2) Certificate of Communication and Assistance.
3) Academic publication with an English-language digital book chapter with ISBN (it will be a different ISBN from the paper book of Option 1, since this second compilation of texts in English will compose the material for a different book).
The presentation of the Communication in the Congress won't be mandatory. In case of not attending the event as a speaker, the Communication will also appear in the edition of the digital book with ISBN, that will be able to be downloaded free of charge from the Publications section of our website.
The publication of the chapter in the digital book with ISBN must be done necessarily in English-language, and using the Word template that will appear soon in this section.
Authors who wish to participate simultaneously in the two modalities (Option 1 and Option 2), to include their Communication or their Communications in the edition of both books (paper publication in Spanish and digital publication in English), may do so:
Sending independently an email with the proposal for Communication for Option 1, and another email with the proposal for Communication for Option 2.
Likewise, authors must pay the two registration fees of 67$ (60€) of each modality, following the instructions that will be sent to them by email.
General Considerations
The deadline for submission of abstracts of the Communications in both options ends on October 7, 2019 (inclusive).
The Communications and their summaries may be sent in Spanish, Valencian, English or French. However, the writing of the chapter for the publication of the paper book must be in Spanish, while for the publication of the digital book it must be in English.
The reading of each Communication during the Congress must not exceed 15 minutes, and can be done in Spanish, Valencian, English or French.
The selection criteria of the Communications will be based on the adaptation to the proposed thematic lines, the innovative character, the clarity of writing, the ethical and scientific rigor, as well as the adaptation to the present bases.
Only oral communications may be submitted. Posters presentations are not contemplated.
The date of acceptance of the Communications in both options will be October 14, 2019, notifying each Communicator individually of the result of their request (or requests, if participating in Option 1 and Option 2).
The payment period for the registration fee will be October 15-21, 2019 (inclusive). The maximum period to send the materials that will be screened in the Congress during the Communications (slides, images, videos, etc.) ends on November 4, 2019 (inclusive).
The Scientific Committee, assisted by double-blind peer review, will propose the selection of Communications approved for the Congress, as well as the texts selected for their corresponding publications.
The maximum period to send the selected texts for evaluation and publication in book chapters format, both for the publication of the paper book (Option 1) and for the publication of the digital book (Option 2), ends on January 13, 2020 (inclusive).
Selected texts must be original and unpublished, and not await acceptance by other means. Any proposal that doesn't meet these requirements won't be valued for the scientific program.
All proposals must be sent to: congreso@festivalcinefantaelx.com
Submission rules
The submission way for sending the Communications must follow this scheme, in which two text files must be sent:
The first file must contain: Name and surname of the Communicator, title of the Communication, participation option, email, telephone, postal address, ID, institution of origin, position in the institution of origin, and a brief Curriculum Vitae. If more than one Communicator participates, the same information in this regard should be reflected. This first file will be named:
A_METADATA_OPTION_1_Title, or A_METADATA_OPTION_2_Title
The word « Title» must not be written literally, but three words of the title of the Communication separated by underscores. For example:
A_METADATA_OPTION_1_Space_exterior_videogames
A_METADATA_OPTION_2_History_ archetypes_fantasy
Remember that if you participate in both modalities, you must send two independent emails.
The second text file must contain: Title, Keywords (maximum four), and a Communication Summary of a maximum of 600 words (Times New Roman body 12, single space). In this document won't appear personal data of the Communicator, for evaluation of double-blind peer review by the Scientific Committee. This second file will be named:
B_ABSTRACT_OPTION_1_Title, or B_ABSTRACT_OPTION_2_Title, following the same system as the first document.
Rules to write the texts that will appear in the academic publication with ISBN
For the chapters of the books that will be published derived from the Congress, both for the edition of the paper book and for the edition of the digital book, both with their respective ISBNs, the Word template that will appear soon in this same section should be strictly used. The template will show details regarding typographic norms, citation system, bibliographic references, etc.
Chapters that don't fit the Word template will be rejected.
Chapters may not exceed 5.000 words (including footnotes and final bibliographic references).
Images, figures, graphics, etc .: a maximum of two black and white are accepted for the publication of the paper book (Option 1), and a maximum of four in color for the publication of the digital book (Option 2).
